“Compile Error in Hidden Module: MTLib" message in Microsoft Office X after installing MathType

The information in this document applies to:

MathType 5.0 (Mac)

Microsoft Word X (Mac)
Microsoft PowerPoint X (Mac)

Issue

If you are running a non-English version of OS X, you may receive a "Compile Error in hidden module: MTLib" error message when using the MathType Commands in either application.

Reason

A Compile Error occurs if the Mac OS decimal separator character is not '.', which may be the case in non-English versions of OS X.

Solution

To correct this problem, you need to install MathType version 5.0a or later. To determine which version you are running, launch MathType and choose "About MathType" under MathType in the Application Menu.

The latest version of MathType can be downloaded here. If you need a replacement CD, please contact sales@dessci.com. Your 5.0 registration number can be used with 5.0a.

If you still experience problems after upgrading, please email our technical support staff for assistance.
