MathType works with Word
MathType Help
MathType support for
Word is extensive, therefore your primary source of
information should be MathType Help. From the MathType Help menu, choose "Table
of Contents", and then choose "MathType with Microsoft Office". We list its
features below for reference only and to complete the
MathType Interoperability Registry.
Using MathType with Word
MathType adds these capabilities to its integration with
Word: (Refer to MathType Help for full instructions.)
- MathType includes a MathType tab on the Word 2007 Ribbon (Windows).
- MathType adds a menu & toolbar to Word 2000, 2002 (XP), and 2003 for
Windows, as well as Word X and 2004 for Macintosh.
- Change the font and size of all equations in a document.
- Generate good-looking, accessible math web pages.
- Edit equations inline or in a separate window.
- Automatically-sequenced equation numbering & referencing.
- Browse all equations and equation numbers in a document.
- Export all equations in a document to TeX/LaTeX, MathML, EPS, GIF, WMF
(Windows), or PICT (Mac)
These features are new in MathType 6.5 for Windows:
- Convert Word 2007 equations or equation pictures to MathType equations.
- "Toggle TeX". Type TeX directly into Word and convert it to MathType
equations.
- New translators for using MathType to/from Maple, Mathematica, Physics
Forums, and more.
- New keyboard shortcuts in Word for opening equations in MathType for
editing.
- Paste MathML into MathType.
While MathType does work with Mac Office 2008, most of these MathType

Word employs a standard called Object Linking and Embedding (OLE). For more
